Pistorius trial: Prosecution continues cross examination

  • Intro:

Chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel continued his cross examination of defence expert witness Roger Dixon at the murder trial of Oscar Pistorius at the Supreme Court in Pretoria, South Africa on Thursday (17th April).

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Roger Dixon, defence expert witness:

"Mr Pistorius is slightly taller on his stumps because he has an extension below the knee. My understanding of his height, his head would maybe, the top of his head might be about 20 centimetres higher than the top of this person's head."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Gerrie Nel, chief prosecutor:

"So I don't have to carry on with this cross examination. What we see on 2.7 is not a reflection of the deceased, how visible the accused would have been on his prosthesis, without his prosthesis. Am I right?"

SOUNDBITE: (English) Roger Dixon, defence expert witness:

"Is this the picture?... "No he would have been higher, he would have been a little bit higher."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Gerrie Nel, chief prosecutor:

"20 centimetres you said. Why would you not make sure, as an expert, that the court gets the real measurements? Why would you give the court this photograph?"

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Gerrie Nel, prosecutor

"You are giving the court an indication of how much the accused would have been visible on his stumps, if he was on his stumps. Then you give us a photograph that does not reflect that. Why would you hand in that photograph or even take that photograph?"
