Cerezo Osaka through to last 16 of AFC Champions League

Thursday, April 24 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Japan's Cerezo Osaka qualified for the last 16 of the AFC Champions League for the second time after beating Shandong Luneng 2-1 on Wednesday (23rd April) - as they denied the Chinese Super League side a first berth in the knockout stages since they made the quarter-final in 2005.

    Script:

Shandong Luneng and Cerezo Osaka battled it out for a place in the last 16 of the AFC Champions League in China on Wednesday.

Hosts Shandong were gifted the perfect start to the Group E match when Tatsuya Yamashita brought Santos Aloisio down in the area and Wagner Love converted the resulting penalty.

But just a minute in to the second half, Cerezo drew level through Yoichiro Kakitani.

Diego Forlan has scored goals all over the world and his latest strike sent Osaka through to the next stage of the AFC Champions League.

Pohang Steelers had already qualified as leaders of Group E before their goalless draw with Buriram United.
