South Africa's Lee-Anne Pace made an inconsistent start to her title defence, finishing the day with a two-over round of 75.

Elsewhere Charlie Hull shot a three-under 70 for share of sixth place.

But some early birdes and a bogey-free back nine ensured it was Heather Macrae who tops the leaderboard, and she was understandably delighted with her performance:

"It was really pleasing. It's nice to get early on the first day and just, I holed a good putt for par on ten and then, birdied the next couple of holes, so I just kind of tried to stay calm and take one shot at a time and it's turned out pretty good."

Macrae's performance is the first time the 30-year-old has topped the leaderboard in a Ladies European Tour event.
