Ahead of the race Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller was the man to catch in the standings, after grabbing the championship lead following round two in Germany.
It was BMW's Marco Wittmann who assumed the lead from his pole position, followed closely by Timo Glock and Félix da Costa.
The race proved relatively uneventful with few changes in the standings.
Wittmann cruised to the chequered flag to take the win over Miguel Molna in his Audi RS 5 DTM.
In the more entertaining final third of the race, Bruno Spengler gunned his BMW and was able to finish third.
Rockenfeller finished 10th, allowing Wittmann to grab the championship lead.
SOUNDBITE: (English) Marco Wittmann, race winner:
"Actually, I am really really happy. I shouted in the radio, I was so happy. I think the key of the success was today to win the start to be first in corner one. And after that I tried to make a gap to get out of the DRS Window. At the end, as we switched to the prime tyres, it was important to hold the lead to hold the gap and it worked out well."
Mortara is third in the overall standings.
The championship now heads to Norisring in Germany on 29th June.
