    Saina Nehwal progressed to the Australian Badminton Open semi-finals at Sydney Olympic Park on Friday. Meanwhile, there were victories for Carolina Marin, Tommy Sugiarto, men's doubles pair Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong as well as mixed doubles duo Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam.

    Sydney Opera House is just down the road from the Olympic Park where the Australian Badminton Open quarter-finals got underway on Friday.

    In the women's singles, it was India's Saina Nehwal who was singing after beating Eriko Hirose of Japan 21-18, 21-9.

    Also in action was Carolina Marin of Spain, who overcame eight-seeded Indian P.V. Sindhu 21-17, 21-17.

    In the men's singles, third seed Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia booked his place in the semi-finals by beating seventh seed Kento Momota of Japan 21-18, 21-7.
    Over to the men's doubles now and Korean pair Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong continued their pursuit of a third consecutive BWF SuperSeries title. They won 21-15, 24-22 against V Shem Goh and Wee Kiong Tan of Malaysia.

    In the mixed doubles, Thailand's Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam sealed their spot in the last four by winning against Malaysian duo Peng Soon Chan and Pei Jing Lai 21-11, 21-15.
