Yoichiro Kakitani has joined Swiss champions FC Basel from Cerezo Osaka.

The Japanese striker said his failure to secure a starting place in the Japan national side was the main reason behind his decision to leave Japan.

The young striker made his final appearance for Cerezo in a 2--1 defeat to Kawasaki Frontale on July 15th.

Over 15-thousand came to see his final J -League appearance before departing for the Swiss champions.

On the international front, the 24--year--old was a regular in Alberto Zaccheroni's squad before suffering from a dip in form this year.

He watched most of Japan's disappointing World Cup campaign from the bench.

Kakitani wore the number 8 shirt at Cerezo Osaka, and becomes the latest player in a list of Cerezo number 8's to depart for Europe, those include Nurnberg's Hiroshi Kiyotake and Manchester United's Shinji Kagawa.
