Meanwhile Argentina pair Messi and Javier Mascherano and Brazil duo Neymar and Dani Alves remain on extended leave after their countries' respective exploits in South America.

Full-back Adriano sat out the training session as he recovers from an abnormal heart rate. Ex-Arsenal central midfielder Alex Song was forced to cut his return to England short due to personal reasons.

New signings Claudio Bravo, Marc-André ter Stegen, Jérémy Mathieu and Ivan Rakitić were all present at St George's Park as the Catalans began their seven day boot camp.
