South Africa's Hennie Otto wins the Italian Open for the second time in Turin on Sunday (31st August), as Stephen Gallacher of Scotland misses out on an automatic place in Europe's Ryder Cup team by a single stroke.

    Script:

Going into the final round of the Italian Open in Turin, there was more than just the trophy to play for.

Stephen Gallacher knew a top two finish would seal a Ryder Cup spot for the Scot.

Yet at the start of the round he sat four shots off his compatriot Richie Ramsey in second.

Ramsey shot a two under round of 70 to finish tied in fourth.

With the door open for Gallacher to make his move, the Scot opened with four birdies after 5.

He then went birdie - birdie, to drop to 16-under and at the time had his coveted second place.

However, the threat to the Scot's Ryder Cup dream would come from an Englishman.

David Howell opened up with an eagle at the first & this birdie at 11 was one of seven for Howell.

He fired a 9-under 63 to finish on18-under and finish in second, one shot ahead of Gallacher.

The tournament winner, was the man who led since Friday.

South African Hennie Otto fired a steady 68 to finish two clear of Howell & win his second Italian Open.

Gallacher, meanwhile, will be anxiously waiting by the phone for a Ryder Cup wildcard come Tuesday.
