German debut pair win FIBV Qatar Open

    German pair Jonas Schroeder and Tim Holler, on their World Tour debut, defeated Canadian duo Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter in the FIBV Qatar Open final on Saturday (8 November).

    Jonas Schroeder and Tim Holler beat Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter to win the FIVB Qatar Open on Saturday.

    The World Tour newbies from Germany were up against second seeds Binstock and Schachter of Canada, and were leading from the first set onwards 12-9.

    The Canadians put up a brave fight and were hot on their tail, winning a point to trail 20-18.

    However, after a tight battle, the Germans eventually claimed their set point and seized the set 21-18.

    The second set went more comfortably for the Germans, where they were off to a great start, clinching point after point.

    The points gap became wider and wider, and Holler and Schroeder eventually took the set and match point with an impressive score of 21-13, and claimed their first ever World Tour title.

    It was a day of newbies for the host country as well, as Doha made its debut as the host city for the tournament that year.
