  • Intro:

American Lindsay Vonn made it two wins from four races since her return from injury with victory in the World Cup women's downhill at Val D'Isere in France on Saturday (20th December).

Kjetil Jansrud extended his overall World Cup lead at Val Gardena in Italy on Saturday (20th December) with his second Super G win of the season.

    Script:

Val D'Isere was venue for the latest round of the World Cup women's downhill with Lindsay Vonn and Tina Maze joint-top of the downhill standings.

Elisabeth Goergl was the early pacesetter with the Austrian the quickest time early on.

Vonn then took the lead, reaching the bottom 0.19 seconds quicker than Goergl.

The American has recently returned from a knee injury sustained in last year's Val D'Isere downhill.

Yet she showed no problems on her return, winning the downhill at Lake Louise a fortnight ago (6th December).

There were those who weren't having such a good Saturday: Lotte Smiseth Sejerstad taking a tumble. Something the American Vonn, didn't like the look of.

Behind first placed Vonn, Viktoria Rebensburg recorded a dead heat time with Goergl.

Both finishing on the podium for the first time this season.

Yet that wouldn't dampen the delight of Linsday Vonn as she clinched her 61st World Cup win, just one off the record.

While over in the Italy, the men's Super G was run a day early to preserve the course amid warm temperatures.

Italian Dominik Paris was third in Friday's downhill and he delighted his home support by taking the lead.

Overall World Cup leader Kjetil Jansrud was runner-up in Friday's downhill at Val Gardena.

He was fastest, to make it two Super G victories this season. And now has a lead of 152 points in the standings.
