A late goal from Erik Paartalu gave Melbourne City a 1-0 win over city rivals Victory in the Australian A-League on Saturday (20th December).

    Script:

Going into this Melbourne derby, Victory sat unbeaten in second, while City looked for their first ever derby win.

Victory were much the better side in the first half, and should of scored from this Archie Thompson attempt in the 32nd minute.

The derby kicked into full swing in the 55th minute when Melbourne City's Jacob Melling reacted to Leigh Broxham's attention.

Replays suggesting the midfielder was lucky just to pick up a yellow card.

The away side Victory came again. Broxham with the shot and Fahid Khalfallah reacting quickest.

However the Tunisian's effort was ruled out, and perhaps harshly so.

It was then City's turn to go on the attack, Former West Brom man, Robert Koren, came close to an A-League debut goal with two minutes left.

And it was City who had the last word. Koren with the cross and Erik Paartalu did the rest.

The goal sending the AAMI Park wild & Melbourne Victory to their first defeat of the season.
