The Winter Sports calendar was in full swing at the Olympic Park in Calgary on Friday, as bobsleigh and skeleton took centre stage.

The men's two-man bobsled race saw German pairing of Francesco Friedrich and Martin Grothkopp take the lead early in the last run.

Yet Olympic silver medalists, Latvia's Oskars Melbardis and Daumants Dreiskens, pipped the Germans by 0.03 seconds.

In the women's skeleton, Canada's Elisabeth Vathje raced to her first World Cup victory, winning on her hometown course in only her second career event.
The 20-year-old Vathje edged Britain's Laura Deas by 0.31 seconds.

    Germany's Tina Hermann was third.

Olympic champion Elizabeth Yarnold of Britain, the winner in Lake Placid, skipped the race because of dizziness.

In the men's event, Latvia's Martins Dukurs raced to his second successive victory, beating brother Tomass Dukurs by 0.90 seconds in 1:51.06.

Action from Calgary concludes on Saturday & pick ups for the New Year in Germany.
