New South Wales rivals Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC went head-to-head at Central Coast Stadium on Saturday, with Sydney head coach Graham Arnold returning to his former club for the first time leaving in 2013.

Austrian forward Marc Janko opened the scoring for the visitors in the 15th minute and set the tone for the match.

Chris Naumoff doubled the lead just three minutes later when he connected with a cross in style to produce a fine volley that beat Reddy.

And Sydney made it 3-0 before half-time as they took advantage of some shocking defending.

Former Mariners forward Bernie Ibini let a through-ball roll in front of him and coolly placed it in the back of the net.

The evening went from bad to worse for Central Coast when Anderson's unfortunate back pass to Reddy was intercepted by Janko who got his second of the match.

Central Coast finally grabbed a consolation thanks to a wonderful 70-yard sprint from one end of the pitch to the other by Joshua Rose.

He then unselfishly slipped the ball into the path of Travis Major who finished with ease.

There was still time for Sydney to grab one more and complete the rout.

Alex Brosque with a quality finish as Janko became the provider.

The win means Sydney remain fifth in the table.
