SOUNDBITE: (English) Serena Williams, number one seed:

    Q. "The last time we saw you unfortunately you had to pull out of Indian Wells with your knee injury. How is that now and what have you been doing to prepare for this tournament?"

"Well I have been doing a tremendous amount of therapy, trying to get my leg better and just thinking I want to be here and there is not too much pressure though because obviously I want to be healthy and get ready."

    Q. "You've won this tournament more times than anyone in your career. Does it feel like a home tournament in Florida and do you think perhaps that is why you have had so much success here in the past?"

"Yeah this definitely feels like a home tournament to me and I live really close. All my friends come here and I feel I have to do well for them and try to play extra hard."

    Q. "What would it mean to win an eighth title here this year?"

"It would be really cool to win eight, I didn't think I could get to seven and here I am talking about eight. So, it would be really cool."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Maria Sharapova, number two seed:

    Q. "You're a 5 time finalist here, what do you think it will take this year for you to go the extra step and get your hands on the trophy?"

"Well I always love coming back to this tournament. It brings back many good memories. I came here watching the tournament as a spectator from a young age to playing it many times. Haven't held that trophy yet. It would be very meaningful to me to hopefully one day be able to hold it, but it is a long 10 days and you have to work through different types of matches and that is what I am looking forward to doing."

    Q. "You mention coming here as a child and having been based in Florida so many years does it feel like a home away from home when you play here?"

"Yeah I am so used to the climate and atmosphere and I love coming back to Miami and visiting different spots and playing on a small intimate court compared to many other bigger venues, so I feel like the tradition of coming back and being familiar with the atmosphere always helps you."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Caroline Wozniacki, number four seed:

    Q. "Where does this tournament rank for you on the WTA calendar? Is it somewhere you look forward to coming every year?"

"It is for sure. I enjoy this tournament. It is nice. It is Miami. Miami is beautiful. The sun is always shining so it is definitely a place I love coming back to."

    Q. "Do you find the conditions here are quite different from Indian Wells and how do you have to adapt your game to them?"

"Yeah, it is much different to play here. Indian Wells the ball flies a lot, it is in the desert, it's dry heat, but here it is humid and the balls get heavier. It is different. It is more windy here some times, but it is the same for everybody. So I just play and do my best."
