The Dongfeng Race Team have been forced to limp out after suffering a broken mast during the fifth leg of the Volvo Ocean Race.

Script:

A cruel blow for the Dongfeng Race Team, they were sharing the overall lead in the 2015 Volvo Ocean Race, but they have been forced to quit the fifth leg due to a broken mast.

It could hardly have happened in a worse spot for the Chinese boat, in the middle of the Southern Ocean, 240 nautical miles from Cape Horn in southern Chile, one of the most remote places on Earth.

The mast has broken in the top section and has left the boat unable to sail safely on starboard tack, the vessel will now limp to Ushuaia in Argentina.

Even though they are out of this leg, they need to reach South America fast as the boat will need to be fixed and transported to the start line, all in time for the next leg on April the 19th.
