Australia captain Michael Clarke said his players would have to drink two at a time to celebrate winning the cricket world cup on Sunday night to honour their former teammate Phillip Hughes, perhaps that's why almost all of them were wearing sunglasses the next morning.

Few though would begrudge a night out to celebrate this...

SOUNDBITE: (English) Michael Clarke, Australia captain:

"Look, we are extremely proud. I think the fact that there was lot of expectation and added pressure put on us at the start of the tournament being a home World Cup, something we embraced from the first ball of the tournament and I think the boys should be really proud of what we have achieved and I think we have had tremendous support and all the guys have said that today throughout every game in the tournament we have felt like we have been at home and it has made such a big difference. Guarantee that the boys will continue celebrating today."

So no surprises there and no surprises too on Clarke's own future, he's sticking to his decision to retire from one-day international cricket.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Michael Clarke, Australia captain:

"Look, it's the right time whether I had got a duck or made runs last night. I don't think it mattered too much. We bowled so well, somebody in that batting order would've scored runs, So I'm extremely grateful to have the opportunity for Australia in the limited overs form and like I said it's the perfect time to leave this great game."
England haven't seen the last of him though, they'll get to face him and a number of the other World champions this summer in the Ashes.
