Saturday, April 18 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers calls for a sense of perspective after pictures, dating back some months, emerged of Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe smoking a shisha pipe and a video was released apparently showing Sterling inhaling laughing gas and seemingly passing out. The Reds face Aston Villa in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

SOUNDBITE (English) Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool coach:

(on Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe's well-publicised 'off the field' activities)

"None of your business! (laughs)... I spoke to both players and they are fully aware of what has happened... and as I've said, they are young players who will learn... and then we talked about football."

SOUNDBITE (English) Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool coach:

(on Mario Balotelli and Daniel Sturridge receiving more than 5000 racist 'tweets' between them)

"We need to eradicate all of this out of social life and obviously professional sport and as I've said, I think everyone, not just... I think it's the responsibility of us all to help all of the various organisations to stamp it out, so yeah, I saw that and I was surprised and shocked but we must all work together to stamp it out."

SOUNDBITE (English) Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool coach:

(on the possibility of Daniel Sturridge being fit for the semi-final)

"We will give Dan every possibility to be fit and we will see how he is tomorrow and take it from there."

SOUNDBITE (English) Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool coach:

(on having Steven Gerard back from suspension and how his experience might help Liverpool)

"Yeah, he's a special player, Steven... still is. you know, he's been throughout his time an incredible player who, in the main has always in the big games produce big goals in big moments and always produces a great contribution to the team, so like I say, the most important thing was having him back, but he knows Wembley very well and he's someone who has a special quality."

    SOUNDBITE (English) Brendan Rodgers

"... Tim's [Sherwood has] gone in and done well, brought a new sort of leadership into the group and they've responded and obviously, they are still fighting down there (against relegation from the Premier League), but a really good result last week (1-0 win at Tottenham)... and he's one of the few British coaches that are working at this level and we always seem to have to fight that bit harder to prove our worth and he's obviously doing that and doing very well."
