    Wellington Phoenix stay in the Australian A-league title chase with late shock of Central Coast Mariners 3-2 on Friday (17th April).
    Sydney FC beats Newcastle Jets 4-3 in a thrilling encounter in the A-League on Friday.

    Script:

    It had been three straight games since Wellington Phoenix had last found the target- how would these groundsmen working on the goal before the game help? As they took on Central Coast Mariners.

    But it was Central Coast who claimed the opener in the 11th minute when Nick Fitzgerald scored to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

    The Mariners doubled that lead in the 35th minute; Eddy Bosnar fired his free-kick through the wall to make it 2-0.

    But Wellington did break their goalscoring drought in the 65th minute when Roly Bonevacia scored form the edge of the area to cut the Mariners lead.

    Wellington then equalised in the 75th minute when substitute Kenny Cunningham scored with a clinical finish to level the match.

    Then, with seconds left on the clock and Wellington desperately pressing for the three points, Cunningham curled home his second of the match to to send the crowd into a frenzy.

    It finished 3-2 to Wellington Phoenix.

    Elsewhere Newcastle Jets, with only pride to play for, hosted Sydney FC.

    Newcastle Jets took the lead in the 21st minute - Enver Alivodic's neat lob giving his side the lead.

    But the visitors did only take three minutes after the break to pull level - Alex Brosque placing ball into the bottom corner.

    Sydney then took the lead in the 51st minute when Bernie Ibini pounced on a rebound.

    That lead was then extended four minutes later. Alex Brosque scored his second of the night.

    Jets reduced the margin in the 66th minute when Ecuador international Edson Montano somehow squeezed the ball between Janjetovic's legs The ball clearly crossing the line.

    The game then took another turn when Andrew Hoole equalised from the spot.

    But the game still wasn't over. The Sky Blues scoring one more goal to regain the lead- Robert Stambolziev steering the ball into the back of the net for the winner.

    4-3 the final score in an incredible game.
