  • Intro:

With rubble and debris looming nearby, and tempers still smouldering in riot-torn Baltimore, the Orioles played a baseball game on Wednesday (29 April).

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: English, Buck Showalter, Manager Baltimore Orioles:

"And there are some people that thought it was important to try to play today for other reasons too. And I think you probably know what those are. I think we're trying to throw as many things out there that bring some feel of normalcy to the city. Like I said, we're citizens of this community and we're trying too. You know the Orioles are very important to a lot of people here. Watching a lot of the stuff that you all have watched, every time I saw someone in an Oriole hat or an Oriole jersey or an Oriole sweatshirt, I mean, this team means a lot to them."

SOUNDBITE: Greg Bader, Baltimore Orioles Director of Communications:

"Obviously there are far bigger issues. And part of the reason we closed today was we didn't want to take away from any resources that the city might need to preserve the calm in the city of Baltimore."
