Briton Kris Meeke held on to second place in the Rally of Portugal, 11.2 seconds behind leader Jari-Matti Latvala.

Belgian driver Thierry Neuville's race was ended when he rolled his Hyundai early on in stage eight.

Frustration for Neuville and the incident would also cause a ten second delay for his team mate Dani Sordo, who had to barge his way past Neuville's stricken car.

More drama befell Elfyn Evans as he smashed the front right suspension of his Ford Fiesta, causing the car to catch alight.

Latvala stays in top spot overall; the Finn encountering the odd ragged moment as he aimed to keep the challengers at bay.

The race continues on Saturday, where drivers will cover a total distance of over 102 miles.
