A spectacular backdrop for a spectacular achievement as Ireland's 19-year-old Bertram Allen became the youngest rider to win a Global Champions Tour Grand Prix event.

Oscar winning actress Marion Cottilard would struggle to find a better script in Hollywood, a five-contender play-off. Allen finished in 37.32 seconds on his Chesnut Stalion who is just two years younger than him.

He would have an agonising watch as ranking leader Luciana Diniz just missed out on his time.

There was room for one more Irishman on the podium in Paris as Darragh Kenny went round third fastest in the play-off.

Next up is Estoril where Diniz will hope to move closer to the Championship with a win at home in Portugal.
