Briton Sir Ben Ainslie and his Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing team won the America's Cup World Series after Sunday's racing was cancelled because of torrential rain and high winds.

Forecast winds over 30mph forced the regatta director to first delay the start and then abandon the two races.

First and second place finishes in Saturday's two races on the Solent sealed victory for Ainslie's boat, who were congratulated by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The Land Rover BAR team leave Portsmouth with 19 points from Saturday's races, one point ahead of Emirates New Zealand, who were third in Saturday's opening race before winning the second.

It was the perfect start for Ainslie in a lengthy qualification process that will count towards the 2017 America's Cup Challenger Series. The Macclesfield-born sailer will hope for another royal performance in Gothenburg, Sweden next month.
