Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic defeats Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-5 in epic quarterfinal match at the Connecticut Open in the USA on Thursday (August 27).

Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki made it to the semi-finals of the Connecticut Open after routing France's Caroline Garcia 6-3, 6-0 on Thursday.

Script: Fifth-seeded Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic took on 'lucky-loser' Lesia Tsurenko of the Ukraine in the quarterfinals of the Connecticut Open in New Haven.

Tsurenko was still in the competition after top-seeded Simona Halep pulled out because of an injury.

And Tsurenko took full advantage of her opportunity to make the semi-finals.

The 26 year old took the first set 6-2.

She then completed the win in simple fashion, taking it in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

She will now contest her maiden semifinal.

    Elsewhere Lucie Safarova beat Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova 6-7 , 6-4, 7-5 in a match that lasted a mammoth 2 hours, 56 minutes.

In Cibulkova's three tournament matches, she has logged just under nine hours on the court.

But Safarova took the win and will now play Tsurenko in the next round.

Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki made it to the semi-finals after thrashing France's Caroline Garcia 6-3, 6-0.

Wozniacki will face second-seeded defending champion Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic.

Kvitova beat seventh-seeded Agnieska Radwanska of Poland 7-5, 6-4 to reach the last four, overcoming a 5-3 deficit in the first set.

Kvitova advances to the semi-finals for the fourth straight year.
