Pellegrini: "The players had a strong reaction" to earlier losses

Sunday, November 29 2015 by SNTV
  • Reaction after Manchester City beat Southampton 3-1 in the English Premier League on Saturday (28 November).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Manuel Pellegrini, Manchester City manager:

(about reaction after losing the last two games):

"It was important to have a strong reaction in front of our fans here, at home. If you want to be involved in the title of the Premier (League), you cannot drop more points at home. We've lost already six, (against) West Ham and Liverpool. So I think the players had a very strong reaction. It was not easy because we are playing so many games with the same player. But I think the start of the game was so important to demonstrate we are a strong team."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Ronald Koeman, Southampton manager:

(about his tactics for the game):

"I think it's not a question about the tactics, about players, about the line-up today. If you make those kind of mistakes that we did in the first 20 minutes. At least we showed in the second half that we can keep the ball and that we can have good ball possession. If you do those kinds of mistakes and then, you know against City, they punish you. Maybe we were lucky it was only 2-0 after 20/25 minutes because we lost every ball in our ball possession. And that's not about systems, not about tactics, it's about play the ball to the good colour (team-mate) and see the first goal. If you lose that possession on the pitch, then you know against players like (Raheem) Sterling, that they will punish you for that."
