Wenger left frustrated by mixed form

  •  Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has expressed his "frustration" at a disappointing season for the north Londoners ahead their Premier League game at home to relegation-threatened Norwich City. While pleased with his side's results against their major rivals, Wenger highlighted poor results against the 'lesser' sides, may has cost them the title.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Arsene Wenger, Arsenal manager (on the game against Norwich, who are in a three-way fight with Sunderland and Newcastle for Premier League survival):

"Norwich is a team who plays more and so we have to stop them from combining well and for us it's important to score early, if possible, to put them under pressure of course, and to play at a high pace."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Arsene Wenger, Arsenal manager (on frustration within the club and the fans):

"We have to put things a little bit into perspective and see how the club's evolution has gone over the years. I believe that was not always easy. The quality of the work we've done at the club has got us into a strong position where expectations are very high, but the frustration is very high as well when we don't get what we want."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Arsene Wenger, Arsenal manager (on claims some squad members do not have strong enough characters to win the Premier League):

"They should not question the character of these players, because they are exceptional characters. We are disappointed, but we have to fight. And on the other hand, I believe as well, when a club cannot enjoy anything anymore, it is in trouble. We have not to forget that in football you go down very quickly and you come up very slowly. So we have to stick together, because the team played as well this season sometimes at home... We lost the championship at home against the lower teams, but we played sometimes at home in a very difficult climate, you know. And we have to realise that away from home we are championship winners.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Arsene Wenger, Arsenal manager (on criticism coming from outside the club):

"Look, there is some group of people who try to manipulate, and don't do that well, our fans, and I believe, apart from an agenda, a personal agenda, a big ego, there's not a lot behind it, you know, and that's what I think, basically."
