Verstappen 'happy and shocked' to be replacing Kvyat

Saturday, May 07 2016 by SNTV
  • Max Verstappen talks after Red Bull Racing on Thursday (5th May) demoted Russian driver Daniil Kvyat and replaced him with the 18 year-old Dutch driver for the rest of the Formula One season, starting from next week's Spanish Grand Prix.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Max Verstappen, Red Bull:(Question: How did you feel when you learnt you would be driving for Red Bull Racing in Barcelona?)

"Well, of course I was very happy. A bit shocked as well - I didn't expect that, but yes, I'm very happy with this opportunity of course. I have to say a big thanks to Red Bull and Dr. Helmut Marko (head of Red Bull driver development) and know I just can't wait to jump into the car."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Max Verstappen, Red Bull:(Question: How do you think the RB12 will differ to the STR11?)

"Well, hopefully it will be faster, that's the main target. I just hope to have a comfortable feeling, because that's what a driver needs in the car. So, we'll find out in Barcelona. I have never driven the RB12 or 11 before, so it will be an all new experience and a lot of procedures to learn, but I'm up for it."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Max Verstappen, Red Bull:(Question: Do you know much about the team already?)

"Well of course, I know a lot about what they've done in the history of Formula One. They are very competitive and I am also a very competitive person, so hopefully it'll be a perfect match."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Max Verstappen, Red Bull:(Question: What expectations will you place on yourself for the Spanish Grand Prix?)

"I go there with no expectations to be honest. I just want to adapt to the car, understand it better and better every session and like I said before, study a lot the data and also see what my teammate (Daniel Ricciardo) is doing, because the most important thing is that we score points."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Max Verstappen, Red Bull:(Question: What did your father - Jos Verstappen - say?)

"He was very proud to be honest. He was very happy of course, because he invested a lot of time also in me when I was younger and we started together in go-karting where he helped me out a lot and I learned a lot from him and for sure, if he was not helping me, I would not be standing here today."
