Neuville quickest in Thursday shakedown

Friday, May 20 2016 by SNTV
  • Hyundai driver Thierry Neuville was quickest in the shakedown on Thursday (19th May), ahead of the Rallye de Portugal.

The World Rally Championship returns to Europe this week for the Rally Portugal, with Hayden Paddon keen for another good showing after securing his first win in Argentina last month.

The New Zealander was only seventh in the shakedown in Baltar, as Hyundai team-mates Thierry Neuville and Dani Sordo took first and second.

Sordo can expect plenty of support from his fellow Spaniards crossing over the border into Portugal.

Ford's Estonian driver Ott Tanak was third, ahead of Kris Meeke who is taking part in his first race since February's Rally Sweden.

Jari-Matti Latvala was joint-fifth with Volkswagen team-mate Andreas Mikkelsen.

World champion Sebastien Ogier was eighth.

Lousada hosts a short opening stage of the fifth round of the World Rally Championship on Thursday evening, with the action getting underway in earnest on Friday morning
