  • Adrian Otaegui carded an eight-under-par 64 and holds a two-stroke lead following Thursday's (9th June) first round of the Lyoness Open in Austria.

There were clear weather conditions at Austria's Diamond Country Club as the European Tour's Lyoness Open got underway.

Defending champion Chris Wood showed his experience of the course with a pair of birdies on both the front and the back nines.

A couple of bogeys on the final two holes left him on 71 for the day.

Meanwhile, home favourite and 2012 champion Bernd Wiesberger finished two-under-par with a card of 70.

The 2013 Lyoness winner, Joost Luiten, went one better with a 69.

Kristoffer Broberg looked in good shape throughout with only one bogey to go with five birdies - one of those, on the eighth hole, was carved out of a shaped second shot around some trees to get the ball onto the green from an improbable position.

France's Gary Stal was third overall at the close of play after he holed his second eagle on the fourth hole, eventually finishing with a five-under 67.

Sweden's Bjorn Akesson was largely consistent right around the course, his seventh and final birdie of the day coming at the seventh hole.

However, out on top without dropping a shot was Adrian Otaegui, finishing with an eight-under 64.

The Spaniard holed four birdies on both the front and back nines to lead him into the second day with a two-stroke lead.
