Hulk set to join Shanghai SIPG in record deal

  • Brazilian striker Hulk arrived in Shanghai on Wednesday (29th June) ahead of his expected move to SIPG FC.

    Hundreds of fans of Shanghai SIPG gathered at Pudong International Airport to welcome Brazilian striker Hulk who is expected to join their club in this summer transfer window.

    Local media are predicting the deal could be a record for the Chinese Super League.

    Hulk, is set to move from Russian club Zenit St Petersburg - with some reports suggesting that the fee could be in the region of 60 million US dollars, a record for an Asian club.

    Although SIPG general Manager Sui Guoyang claimed the fee was in fact lower.

    Nevertheless, it is an example of the growing strength of the Chinese Super League and its ability to lure the world's leading players.

    Other big names to have joined Chinese clubs include Brazilian midfielder Ramires and Colombian striker Jackson Martinez.

    Hulk will undergo a medical in Shanghai before signing a formal contract.
