Oscar Pistorius defence team will NOT lodge appeal

Thursday, July 07 2016 by SNTV
  • Oscar Pistorius's defence team say they will not lodge an appeal after the former Olympic athlete is sentenced to six years for the 2013 murder of his then girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp and taken from the Pretoria High Court to prison on Wednesday (6th July).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Andrew Fawcett, Oscar Pistorius defence team:

"Just from the defence team, we respect the decision from Masipa (Judge Thokozile Masipa) and we will not be lodging any applications for leave to appeal going forward. And Oscar will serve the sentence as handed down by Masipa."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Anneliese Burgess, acting advocate for Oscar Pistorius:

"The family have asked me to make a very brief statement, I will also email that statement to everybody. And it is very simple, that statement is that the family (Pistorius family) accepts that judgement that was handed down today and there are no plans to appeal (against) that judgement. They have always been very clear that they respect the legal process and the rule of law and that hasn't changed and that is their position after today and after this judgement."
