  • Scott Hend and Felipe Aguilar finish joint-top of the standings after the first round of the Scottish Open in Inverness on Thursday (7th July).

Day one of the Scottish Open at Castle Stuart on the banks of the Moray Firth led to only two players managing to shoot below 70.

2013 champion Phil Mickelson wasn't one of them. He hasn't got off to the best of starts, finishing four over-par. This birdie at 6, a rare highlight.

Patrick Reed wasn't able to lift American spirits, trouble was found on the second on his way to a 3 over-par round.

Martin Kaymer faired a little better, the German's super birdie on 14 - a bump and run shot on the undulating 14th - helping him on his way to finishing level par.

Home favorite Russell Knox remains in contention after finishing level on par - plenty of support for the Scot as he birdies the 2nd.

South African Branden Grace is two off the lead. The world number 10 made three birdies, this on the 16th.

2008 Scottish Open winner Graeme McDowell enjoyed a good day on the wind swept highlands course. The Northern Irishman is one back after three birdies to cancel out two dropped shots in his opening five holes.

But it's Australian Scott Hend who tops the leaderboard on three under along side Felipe Aguilar. Hend's eagle on the second set him on his way nicely.
