  • Late first-round reaction from the U.S. Women's Open on Thursday, 7 July.

SOUNDBITE (English): Lydia Ko, World No. 1, shot a 1-over-par 73:

"Yeah, Mirim (Lee), I don't know what course she played, maybe the ladies tees, maybe a different course. But she played fantastic. I saw -- we were checking the leaderboard, she made two bogeys and still shot 8-under. It's very impressive. She must have hit a lot of fairways and made good putts. I think obviously that's the key."

SOUNDBITE (English): Brooke Henderson, World No. 2, shot a 4-over-par 76:

"I mean, I'm not too far off from being in a good position. You know i make a couple of birdies early and get my confidence up a little bit I think I'll be right back in there going into the weekend."

SOUNDBITE (English): Amy Yang, shot a 5-under-par 67:

"I mean, rough is so thick out there, so you don't want to hit in there. So my fairway accuracy was much -- it was really good. I hit it so solid from tee box every time. So I think that gave me big advantage shooting lower score today."
