  • San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan announced his retirement Monday (11 July) after 19 seasons, five championships, two MVP awards and 15 All-Star appearances.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Danny Green, Spurs forward "I'm obviously shocked I mean I guess we knew it was gonna happen eventually, but you just don't wanna accept it so hard to accept even knowing it was gonna come I had many great years with Tim, a couple of good ones and five great years with Tim couldn't ask for a better teammate a great player but an even better person."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Danny Green, Spurs forward "As I said he was amazing temmate even knowing his stats and what he did what he accomplished individually he always sacrificed himself for the greater of the team for the greater good and he always encouraged his teammates he always took a backseat to everybody else and encouraged them to shoot the ball more or do this more and he didn't care about the limelight so that's what made him Tim and he was great at it."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Danny Green, Spurs forward "I haven't spoken to him yet but hope to talk to him soon I'm sure I will reach out hopefully he's enjoying his time off and we'll see how he handles it hopefully maybe one of these days he might change his mind and come back."
