  • Pole vault world-record holder, Renaud Lavillenie, spoke on Thursday (21st July) about doping being a widespread issue in sport. The Frenchman was speaking ahead of the Anniversary Games at the London Olympic Stadium.

SOUNDBITE (English) Renaud Lavillenie, Pole vault world record holder (on London):

"The thing is anti-doping is a very hard situation. People are focusing on Russian athletics, but it's in every sport in every country. Maybe they have to take the biggest decision and maybe ban some clean athletes in Russia. It's a hard decision, but for ourselves we are just focused on our sports. We have to deal with the rules because we always get doping controls. We have a big responsibility to show the world that we are clean and that we can make some big performances without drugs. Many things are bigger than us and we can't deal with that. We still have to focus on Rio and do something good for our sport because we need it."

SOUNDBITE (English) Renaud Lavillenie, Pole vault world record holder (on Russian doping):

"For the competition I like that people get crazy when you jump. The big noise helps us to know that I'm not in a regular place."
