Two-time Olympic pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva appeared to suggest her dreams of competing in Rio are over, stating on Friday (22nd July) that "it's more than likely that I can forget about a great career ending" and said her rivals for gold would be "relieved because of my absence".

"My 4 metres 90 jump in Cheboksary showed that I'm in a very good physical condition, but that was mid-way, there were two months left 'til the Olympics and of course I would gain much better condition than at the Russian championship. But unfortunately I have to pay for the mistakes of other people and it's more than likely that I can forget about a great career ending, the one I have dreamed of."

"Of course we will appeal against the CAS decision but anyway it won't be struggle for participation in the Olympics because the lawyer simply needs at least a month to prepare for the appeal."

"Of course my competitors will be relieved because of my absence. Today my 4.90 m result is the best season result in the world, no one has jumped higher that me so far. I won't follow the competition, I won't watch the Olympics because first of all it will be hard and secondly it won't be interesting without Russian track and field athletes."
