Thursday, July 28 2016 by SNTV
  • Third seed Kei Nishikoro of Japan, top-seeded Serb Novak Djokovic and unseeded American Ryan Harrison all advanced to the third round of the ATP Rogers Cup with victories at the Aviva Centre in Toronto on Wednesday (27th July).

Third seed Kei Nishikori opened up Wednesday's play at the Rogers Cup.

He was facing a player in Denis Novikov he'd beaten six times in their six previous meetings.

And the Japanese player would break in the ninth game and go on to take the first set 6-4.

The American qualifier Novikov had an impressive win over Argentina's Federico Delbonis in the opening round, yet Nishikori had too much for the World No. 131

Up next on court was the big Gilles Muller against Novak Djokovic.

This was the World No.1's first appearance since Wimbledon and he was made to work by Muller.

    Djokovic winning through 7-5, 7-6.

Later on saw the tighest game of the three with an all-American affair.

John Isner had won the last three meetings with Ryan Harrison yet the qualifier served it out.

Harrison now play the fifth seed Tomas Berdych.
