  • Jimmy Walker closed with a 3-under 67 for a one-shot victory over defending champion Jason Day at the PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club on Sunday (31 July).

The final round of the US PGA Championship took place at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey on Sunday.

Jimmy Walker took a one-shot lead at 11-under over Australia's Jason Day into the final round.

South Africa's Branden Grace pulled to within one shot of Walker at 10-under when he set up a birdie with his approach shot at 13.

Open champion Henrik Stenson of Sweden joined Grace at 10-under with a curling putt for birdie at 6.

Walker increased his lead to two strokes at 12-under when he holed out for birdie from a greenside bunker at 10.

Having had his lead cut to one, he rolled in a downhill, 30-foot birdie putt at 11 to regain his two-shot lead.

Day, the world number one and defending champion, pulled to one-shot of Walker at 13-under with an eagle at 18.

But Walker held his nerve and made a three-foot putt for par at 18 to capture the PGA Championship closing on 14 under par for the tournament.

Walker's win completes a sweep of first-time winners in the majors this year.

And it all but guarantees the American a spot at this year's Ryder Cup as he moved up to number 4 in the Ryder Cup rankings.
