Rugby League: Hayne reflects on 'tough' career decision

Thursday, August 04 2016 by SNTV
  • Less than three months after quitting the San Francisco 49ers so he could make an ultimately failed attempt to compete in rugby sevens at the Rio Olympics, Jarryd Hayne is back in the National Rugby League.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jarryd Hayne, Gold Coast Titans:

"It's been, you know, a very emotional, to make this decision, and it's something that you know took a lot and you know I waited as long as I could and you know I guess for me, the opportunity to come up here and be with such you know a strong club, not only on the field but off the field, you know, was a key indicator and, you know, I never thought I'd join another club. And not in my wildest dreams I ever thought, you know, I would be up on the Gold Coast. And I guess everything happens for a reason and you know, a part of me is sad because obviously I'm not going to go back to the club that I grew up with and that I loved as a kid and come through but that's the excitement as well of joining the Titans and knowing what they are about, their future going forward and being a part of that."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jarryd Hayne, Gold Coast Titans:

"At the end of the day, I had to make a decision and you know it's obviously torn me apart and it was tough emotionally but I think deep down it's you know, it's the right one and I think you know, in the coming days when I'm obviously around the guys and get the boots back on, you know, that will settle and you know, I will be able to smile and move forward."
