Wood feeling in complete control

Friday, August 05 2016 by SNTV
  • Matt Fitzpatrick, Alex Noren, Paul Lawrie and Chris Wood react to reaching the second round of the Paul Lawrie Match Play tournament at Archerfield, East Lothian, Scotland, on Thursday (4th August).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Matt Fitzpatrick, beat Thomas Bjorn 4 and 3:(On how he played during the first round):

"I played really nicely and obviously made a couple of birdie, well, I say a couple, I made quite a few on the front nine! It was good to get off to that fast start and hold it together on the back nine."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Alex Noren, beat Scott Jamieson 5 and 4:(On finding form at this tournament):

"It was really nice. I didn't play so good last week at the PGA Championship, I kind of made the cut and just hung in there- it didn't feel very good. But then, I found something on the range yesterday and worked this morning and then felt so much better off the tee. Around here if you don't the tee shot good, its not that easy but you get a lot of chances from the fairway so I was very pleased."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Paul Lawrie, beat Lucas Bjerregaard 4 and 2:(On getting off to a good start):

"Well I got off to a great start, I hit a wedge at the first to about three feet and made birdie and made a nice birdie at the second so straight away a birdie birdie start and it felt nice, good. Lucas Bjerregaard didn't play the way we know he can play. he's obviously a hell of a talent and a very nice young man but didn't play his best today and I was probably three or four under."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Chris Wood, beat Brett Rumford 4 and 3:(On tie against Brett Rumford):

"I felt very in control actually, but you never know. I kept giving myself 10-15 foot putts without holing them. But on par 5s you're making birdie and winning the hole and the odd par is good enough. Brett Rumford's such a good player that he can throw one in stiff any minute and you lose a hole and its back to two or back to one. You feel like ' what's happened there?' But, fortunately I hit a lot of greens and gave myself a lot of chance and it wears them down I think, in the end."
