USA Women's Basketball ready for Canada

Saturday, August 13 2016 by SNTV
  • The USA women's basketball team trained and talked on Thursday (11th August) ahead of their match against Canada.

SOUNDBITE (English) Brittney Griner, USA Women's basketball team center:(On the chance of winning the group undefeated)

"Knock on all kind of wood, you know each team is coming out and giving and fighting hard no matter what the score is. No matter what is going on they're fighting us. And that is making us better, each game is making us better because we have to fight even harder."

SOUNDBITE (English) Angel McCoughtry, USA Women's basketball team forward:

"Canada is our next-door neighbour, they have a great team, they are physical, they are always moving, it's going to be a tough match against them. But I think if we could play good defense, and continue to run like we have been doing, we have a good chance."

SOUNDBITE (English) Sue Bird, USA Women's basketball team guard: (On being coached by Geno Auriemma both in college at UConn and with the national team)

"It is different, not better or worse, just different. And I think now you're seeing he is very aware of those differences. He has adjusted, and we had to adjust as well. And I think that now we are the end of his eight-year span, you can see it all come into play. It's a lot different this time than it was in London."

SOUNDBITE (English) Angel McCoughtry, USA Women's basketball team forward: (On watching other athletes compete)

"It's a great experience because Michael Phelps is from Baltimore and I'm from Baltimore, so we are from the same city. So it's good that we can go out and watch different sports, support each other. I know that some of the other athletes were like "Ah, we're going to watch Michael Phelps, we're so excited!". I am excited to go watch, people are excited to watch us, yesterday we watched the men's game with Australia, it's a lot of fun. That's what the Olympics is about."
