  • The United States women's basketball team spent part of their day off Thursday (11 August) visiting Rio's iconic Christ the Redeemer statue.

Rio's iconic Christ the Redeemer statue is one of Brazil's defining images - and the United States women's basketball team took some time to visit the globally-recognised landmark.

Following victory over Serbia on Wednesday, the Americans have won all three games in the pool and now face Canada on Friday. The Canadians are also undefeated so far after beating Senegal to clinch a quarterfinal berth for the second straight Olympics.

The U.S. comfortably beat Senegal and Spain in their first two games - but they had a harder time against the Serbians, winning 110-84.

And as the team enjoyed the sunshine and photographs, Elena Donne gave her view of the statue:

SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Elena Delle Donne, U.S. Women's Basketball Player:

"If you google a picture Imagine that but 50 times bigger, maybe a 100 times bigger. It was just beautiful and not only just the statue but everything around it and being able to see all of the views of Rio is just awesome."

The U.S. have been scoring at a record pace this Olympics, topping 100 points for the third consecutive game. Their latest victory was the 44th consecutive for the Americans.
