  • Women's Olympic triathlon champion Gwen Jorgensen spoke about her success in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday evening (20th August).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Gwen Jorgensen, Olympic triathlon champion:

"In the race I was just thinking about everything in the moment, I know that the race isn't over until you cross that finish line. I actually thought when I was running down the finish straight that Nicola was right there and I only knew a little bit later that she was a little bit further back. We'd been running together for most of the race. For me just crossing that finish line was joy, was relief, we put a lot of sweat and tears and hard work into this. A lot of people did so much for me that no-on would ever know how much Patrick (Lemieux, husband) and Jamie (Turner, coach) invest in me unless they see it, this is for them, it's just been amazing."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Gwen Jorgensen, Olympic triathlon champion:

"Getting the medal and being able to represent USA is pretty incredible, every race I do I have USA across my chest, but being at the Olympics is extra special, knowing that the whole country is behind you, cheering you on. It's an incredible honour and something that I'm really looking forward to celebrating."
