Karanka: Delighted for the fans

  • David Moyes has warned Sunderland they are likely to find themselves in yet another English Premier League relegation battle after a demoralising start to the new season.
Two games and two defeats into the campaign, the 'Black Cats' are pointless after Sunday's (21st August) 2-1 home defeat by derby rivals Middlesbrough.

SOUNDBITE (English): Aitor Karanka, Middlesbrough manager:

"The first Premier League win, the first derby for many of us. What can I say? It is a moment to enjoy because on Wednesday we have another game. And I am really pleased, especially for the players because once again after the game last Saturday they showed we are ready to play in Premier League. And I am so specially pleased for our crowd because they have been waiting six, seven years to live another derby. And after six, seven years we have won the game. So for that reason I am really, really pleased for them because they were supporting us when we were in the Championship and now they deserve to enjoy it."

SOUNDBITE (English): Aitor Karanka, Middlesbrough manager:

(Were you relaxed at half-time with a two-goal lead?) "Relaxed?" Impossible. It was difficult because I told them at the half-time that one goal takes a long time but two or three arrives soon. So for this one I told them we had to be careful and if we conceded a goal we have to play in the same way that we know to play, in the way that we tried to play in the first half. Because I knew with their crowd support, with their quality, we were going to have problems."
