  • Karolina Pliskova earned the biggest tournament win of her career with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against world number two Angelique Kerber in the final of the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati on Sunday (21st August).

Karolina Pliskova took on world number two Angelique Kerber in the final of the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati on Sunday (21st August).

It was Pliskova who made the better start, running into a 0-4 lead early on.

Kerber fought back, but her Czech opponent held tight to break and take the opening set.

Pliskova then took full control of the second set, dominating Kerber to take it 6-1 and seal the biggest win of her career to date.

Kerber's defeat means Serena Williams extends her stay at the top of the WTA rankings to 183 weeks.

However, this was all about Pliskova.
