Media give transfers too much significance - Klopp

Tuesday, August 23 2016 by SNTV
  • Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, speaking on Monday (August 22) stated the English media place too much focus on the transfer deadline. Klopp argued that work on the training ground is more important than bringing in a new signing.

SOUNDBITE (English) Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool manager:

"I really wait for the day when finally the transfer window is closed, because I can't believe how obsessed you all are with this, and you don't believe for a second in improvement on the training pitch. I understand, after Arsenal (Liverpool won 4-3 in English Premier League on 14th August), which was far from being a perfect game, but everyone said we scored four so obviously we can score goals, but we conceded three so obviously we have a defensive problem. That's if you are not very interested in us, it's a way you can see the game. Then we play at Burnley and had 81 per cent of ball possession, but didn't score a goal, so now we could say we need another striker. So I think it makes sense that we think about these things."

SOUNDBITE (English) Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool manager:

"There is no pressure at this moment, it is more a chance to bring the Liverpool train in the right direction. And that's what we should do and that's what we want to do at the moment. Both games we have played up until now (against Arsenal and Burnley in English Premier League) were very important for us, for information. Nobody wants the information we got from Burnley, but now we have it and we have to work with this too."
