Olympic gold no fluke - Puig

Monday, August 29 2016 by SNTV
  • Rio Olympics women's singles Champion Monica Puig of Puerto Rico looked ahead on Saturday (27th August) to the 136th US Open.

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Monica Puig:

"Well, I have got negative messages over the past two days, saying that "We will see how she does in the US Open, or this is a fluke," things like that. I just kind of think to myself, if it happens, and the US Open doesn't go well, well it doesn't go well. It's the reality. You are always going to have a percentage you are going to win and a percentage you are going to lose. But one thing I know is for sure that I am going to prepare myself 100 percent to walk out to the court on Monday and do my job. I know the Olympics wasn't a fluke for me because I have worked very hard to get where I am. And I know the hours, and the tears and the sweats, everything I have put into my practices and it's been very difficult for me. But that moment nobody will be able to take it away from me because I know how hard I had worked for that. We are at the US Open now and I am just focusing on that and I will try to finish the season off as strong as I have started".
