Cipriani wants silverware after Wasps return

Wednesday, August 31 2016 by SNTV
  • Danny Cipriani said lifting silverware at Wasps at the end of the season is the priority, after returning to his former club this summer. Cipriani left Sale at the end of last season and opted to make a big-money return to Wasps, - the club he supported as a boy.

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Danny Cipriani, Wasps:

"Yes it is exciting - but obviously a lot has changed. The talent and the ability in the players and the playing staff that is here I think is very similar. So I think it is just about us here committing to the cause and making sure we can make this a successful season."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Danny Cipriani, Wasps:

"I think as a squad we need to be pushing for the top half - the top four of the table and really sort of gelling and getting the right structures and team shapes and see how we can keep improving because, you know…Saracens have set the bar and I think it is down to us to try to meet it. Talent-wise we have definitely got the players to do so but there is more in to it than just the talent."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Danny Cipriani, Wasps:

"Yeah well…fitness, I am feeling pretty tired. The season has been a long old journey but has been good, we have enjoyed it. I think as a team we have progressed a lot. The season hasn't started yet so we can't really comment on form but, you know, I am pretty comfortable when ity comes to playing in games so I am looking to those when they start."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Danny Cipriani, Wasps:

    (on future England selection)

"Not really. I see it as a season where we can bring some silverware back to this club and then whatever will be, will be on the back of it."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Danny Cipriani, Wasps:

"I think he (England coach Eddie Jones) is very good at staying in touch with a lot of players, whether they be on the periphery or in the squad…what he wants to see them keep improving on. It is just down to the players to implement that in their training and in their games."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Danny Cipriani, Wasps:

"Yeah Kurtley (Beale) has been at training every day and he is a good friend of mine - and I am looking forward to him getting back out on the field. He is obviously going to be injured for a little while and it is a testing time for him but mentally he is very strong. So, he will be fine."
