'Portugal have Cristiano as their obvious talisman' - Rodrigo on Spain's opening World Cup game against Portugal
Tuesday, June 12 2018 by 7MTV-
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Rodrigo, Spain striker (on opening game against Portugal):
"This is a very important game, not only because of the opposition and it being the first game. It's always better to start off on the right foot, but it is obviously not definitive. We have previous experience of the World Cup in 2010. We were champions despite losing the first game against a rival who seemed not so strong at the time (Switzerland). But our mind is only set on winning."SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Rodrigo, Spain striker (on Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo):
"Portugal have Cristiano as their obvious talisman, one of the best current players and maybe one of the best in football history, but the team have proved, especially during the last Euros, that they are more than that. One player alone cannot achieve that. They are a strong team, they're very close to each other, they prove how football is a team sport, there's power in numbers. We need to be very focused. They seem to be the team to beat in our group."SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Rodrigo, Spain striker (on drawing 1-1 with Switzerland and beating Tunisia 1-0 in their World Cup warm-ups):
"The fact that these last two games have not gone the way we expected is something that alerts us and makes us realise that we need to be more focused and be aware that every team have their weapons and are going to pour their souls into achieving something big here at the World Cup."
