Wednesday, August 22 2018 by 7MTV
  • The players and coaching staff of Sampdoria returned to the training ground on Tuesday - after their opening Serie A match of the season was postponed as a mark of respect following the Genoa bridge disaster.

The collapse of the Morandi bridge in the city last Tuesday (14th August) saw 39 people lose their lives and a 12-month state of emergency declared in the region.

Sampdoria were due to face Fiorentina at home on Sunday but the match was postponed as well as Genoa's match at AC Milan that day.

The squad returned to the Mugnaini training ground on Tuesday to start preparations for their game at Udinese on Sunday (26th August).

The party included defender Roberto Tonelli who joined from Napoli on Monday.
