MANCHESTER UNITED have got an initial two man wish list as they look at potential replacements for under fire boss Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils would like either former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte or Juventus coach Max Allegri to take over the Old Trafford hot seat.

But they have plenty of competition for Conte as Real Madrid and AC Milan could both be looking for a new head coach this week are also keen.

Julen Lopetegui faces the axe from Real if they lose the El Clasico trip to Barcelona this evening and Conte is now free after leaving Chelsea in the summer.

He impressed in his first season at Stamford Bridge winning the Premier League but it all came apart after he fell out with the Chelsea board over transfers.

Conte did win the FA Cup last season but failure to qualify for the Champions League was another nail in his Blues coffin.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was keen to bring Conte to the Bernabeu last summer but the Italian declined the offer to take some time away from the game.

Los Blancos’ 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen has kept Lopetegui in the job for now.

Real Madrid had previously gone five matches without a win, they did go four of those matches without even scoring.

Perez has now reportedly made contact with Conte again, to sound out his availability meaning United face mean competition.

While Allegri who is out of contract with Juventus in 2020 is another target but Chelsea and Arsenal have both failed to lure him away from Turin in the last two years.

The Italian boss is desperate to win the Champions League before he departs Juventus.

He has lost two finals against both Barcelona (2015) and Real Madrid (2017).

The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo has revived optimism in Turin that they can win Europe’s ultimate prize.

Mourinho has won himself some breathing space after a recent turnaround in fortunes but their continue to be lingering doubts about his long term future.

It is appears more than likely that United will wait until the summer before finally pulling the trigger and calling time on his stay at the club.

Things looked desperate for the Portuguese when his side trailed Newcastle 2-0 at half-time.

Goals from Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez helped flip the game on its head to save his job.

United came close to a huge result at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

Two goals from Martial gave them the lead until Ross Barkley equalised deep into stoppage time.

Mourinho’s men were then beaten by Juventus in the Champions League group stages.

The result means they face a straight fight with Valencia for the second qualification spot.

United are in for a tough period of fixtures now which could prove conclusive for the future of Mourinho.

The face in from Everton on Sunday before a trip to high-flying Bournemouth.

After that a trip to Turin for the return fixtures with Juventus beckons.

They will then travel to the Etihad to take on Manchester City, a fixture that they famously won 3-2 last season despite trailing 2-0 at half time.
